Now in its third generation, the Citroen Berlingo has been one of the bestselling models in the compact van sector, rivalling the Peugeot Partner and the Vauxhall Combo. The 2019 model offers a more sophisticated look, added tech and new engine options, although used Citroen Berlingo vans are far from out of date.
The latest Mk3 Citroen Berlingo sits on the PSA Group’s EMP2 platform, which is lighter than its predecessor. It is also available with an advanced 1.5-litre BlueHDi powerplant, producing up to 130hp, or the familiar 1.6-litre BlueHDi 75 or 100hp engines that can also be found in used models.
There are four different trim levels: X, Worker, Enterprise and Driver. The Worker trim is ideal for tricky terrain like you might find on building sites, with a higher ride height, Grip Control and Hill Assist technology.
For a compact option, Citroen Berlingo vans are surprisingly spacious. There are a couple of body styles to choose from: the 4.40m long M version with a 2.78m wheelbase and a maximum load volume of 3.8m3 or the 4.75m long XL version with a 2.97m wheelbase with a maximum load volume of 4.4m3.
Inside the cabin, the 2019 Citroen Berlingo has a cleaner and more sophisticated looking dashboard and a multi-functional steering wheel. It also comes with a bucketload of new technology, including intelligent suspension settings, an impressive sound system, parking sensors, Grip Control and even a Magic Wash function, which improves visibility during window washing and reduces the liquid used.
Brand-new models are priced between £16,000 and £23,000 depending on the size and trim you opt for, while low-mileage used Citroen Berlingo vans with one previous owner can be found at half the price.
