Electric Vans

The future is looking electric, but are we ready to embrace it in the business world just yet? Let’s take a look…

Over the next year, the UK needs to increase its number of charging points by six times, to cater for the amount of electric vehicles on the roads. But in a business setting, there are pros and cons to owning an electric van.

We will start with the downsides. The most obvious one being that running low on fuel isn’t an issue when there are so many petrol stations, but run low on electric, and you could be in a mess. Of course we are talking fully electric vehicles here, and there are options to get the best of both worlds but at the moment, charging points are not as readily available as they could be, which could leave you stranded on the way to a job.

They can be quite pricey too when you compare then them to the cost of a used fuel-powered van. But this is due to the tech and investment that has gone into them, they tend to hold their value quite well.

There are some upsides to owning an electric van for your business, such as the decreased fuel bills - as often you can get 100 miles of charge for £1.50 in electric. The impact they have on the environment is significantly less than when you use standard fuels.

However, the UK has a severe shortage on charging points and can we really rely solely on electric to get from A to B? We don’t think we are there quite yet and when business and money are on the line, it seems like a pretty big risk.

In the next few years, we hope to see more charging points and EVs on the roads but until then, we will stick with our Transit!
