Should I Buy a New or Used Van?
When thinking about buying a van, one of the biggest questions will be whether to buy new or used. Below are some factors to take into account before making this decision.
Depreciation
The upfront cost of new vans will typically be a lot higher than used vans, and depreciation will hit them harder. From the moment they leave the forecourt brand-new vans drop in price drastically, meaning when you come to sell or part-exchange the vehicle, you will only get a small fraction of your money back. Depreciation will still affect used vans, just not as much.
Reliability
On the other hand, maintenance costs for a new van will be relatively low, as it is brand new and is less likely to have malfunctioning parts. A used van is more likely to need maintenance, especially if it has done a lot of miles. Fortunately, a lot of our used vans are still protected under the manufacturer’s warranty, and for those that aren’t, we’ll provide a free, six-month AA warranty, so either way, you’ll be covered.
Economy
More recently, manufacturers have been encouraged to reduce harmful emissions, so you can expect newer vans to be more economical and deliver more miles per gallon. This is why we supply nearly new vans at Cheshire Vehicle Supplies.
Condition
While a brand-new van will be in peak condition, you will have to be more careful with used vans. There are, however, a lot of used vans for sale which are well-built using solid materials that have been looked after by their previous owners, so it may not be worth forking out a lot more money for one that is fresh out of the factory. Rest assured, we carefully hand pick only the best used vans to ensure your satisfaction.
New or Used?
At Cheshire Vehicle Supplies, we believe, taking all of the above into account, that to get the perfect balance between quality and value, the best option is not brand-new but used vans which are relatively young and have had few owners. There are a number of reasons for this.
With a used van, you will pay a lot less upfront and the rate of depreciation from purchase will be slower. If a van has only had one previous owner, this means that they would have bought it when it was new, and someone who has spent a lot of money on a new van is likely to have kept it well-maintained. Younger vans are also likely to be more economical.
We practice what we preach, which is why we stock a fantastic range of high-quality used vans with one owner at Cheshire Vehicle Supplies. View them online here!
