The 2019 Ford Ranger Receives a Facelift
The Ford Ranger, Britain’s best selling pick up, is being updated for 2019. A new engine, gearbox and safety kit are all included as well as a range of styling upgrades too.
The current 2.2- and 3.2-litre diesel engines are to be replaced by Ford’s 2.0-litre EcoBlue variant currently found in the Ford Transit and Ford Transit Custom. Despite being down on capacity, the new engine actually offers more power and better efficiency than the ones it’s replacing. In total, there are three EcoBlue engines available. There's a single-turbo version with 128 or 168bhp, while the twin-turbocharged version packs 210bhp, and is the engine that will be used in the forthcoming Ranger Raptor flagship.
As standard, all Ford Rangers come with a six-speed manual, however the 10-speed automatic from the Mustang and US market F-150 is now available as an option for the two more powerful diesel models. These updates all help to increase overall fuel efficiency by up to nine percent, with top fuel economy ratings coming in at an impressive 35.3mpg for the 128bhp engine.
A range of new safety technology is due to be integrated too, you’ll recognise it from Ford’s passenger car range with the likes of collision and pedestrian detection included as standard. Further features include adaptive cruise control, front and rear parking sensors, trailer stability control and lane assist too. A revised bumper and grille along with new paint give the Ranger a fresh look, with LED daytime running lights featuring on top-spec models.
The new Ranger is due to arrive in the summer with Regular, Super and Double Cab body styles available form launch. The Ranger Raptor performance flagship is also due around the same time using the same twin turbo engine mentioned earlier, but with reworked suspension and brakes to improve performance.
