Tips for driving your new van

You have chosen your next van, you’re excited, until you realise it is very different from your last. Here are our tips for breaking in your van and making it feel like home!

Get comfy

Before you even start the engine of your van, take the time to get comfy. Adjust your seat, check your mirror positions and settle in for the long haul. Chances are you will spend more time behind the wheel of your van, that you typically would if you were driving a car, so it is really important that you get as comfy as you can.

Knowing your van

Do you know the way around your van like the back of your hand? You will do! Take a look at the functions and gadgets and familiarise yourself with them. While you might know the drive well, knowing how to operate the lights, air-con and, of course, the radio will help you out no end.

Safety on the roads

With a van comes added weight, even before you add all your kit into the back of it. This will impact your stopping distance, braking distance and your reaction times too. You will need to alter your driving habits slightly and remember to get steadier than you usually would. Take it for a test run and make sure you are focussed and alert.

Practice your parking

Practice makes perfect, or so they say. Vans are generally bigger than cars, and even if you have driven a van before, they come in a lot of shapes and sizes. Try and find quiet roads and spaces so you can get to grips with the size, visibility and angles of your van. You will be reverse parking in no time!
